why have i been to more funerals than weddings?
the funeral went as well as could be expected..no major goofs by me on keys, and dad's singing moved people to tears..the reverend was a bit..odd..though, for lack of a better term.  while i realize these sorts of memorial services are to celebrate the life of an individual rather than remember his or her death, it's still a bit odd to wear a multicolored stole and white vestments to a funeral, i think.  then again, we were more or less the only ones other than the immediate family who were wearing black..being that we were some of the first ones there (and i'd never attended this sort of memorial service), i also had no idea that when we got up to leave that so many people (close to a hundred) would be behind us at the marine corps chapel.

met her former boss outside, jerry..whom i'd contacted about the mccs job.  he encouraged me to apply again, as they've shed some higher-paid individuals, etc. etc.  either way, not particularly encouraging for someone who's applied five times previously.  way to use keyword bombing.  the reception sort of thing afterwards was nice, at a nearish little tavern-type place (great meatballs, wings, finger sandwiches, vegetables/dip), though winding all the way through the rest of the base was a bit lengthy, since the program had said it was essentially "right nearby."  always forget how huge military bases are..

figured i had to be at least mildly productive today instead of just playing lod nonstop, so i got to convention packing.  wore the
silver acetate-backed vest with the gem-studded gunmetal buttoned black shirt last year, so wanted to go for something different this time.  eventually settled on the same black shirt but with silver tie for the farewell dance, and tux with black and dark green paisley vest/bowtie for the banquet.  someone wise once said, always better to be overdressed than underdressed, right?  maybe?  meh, who knows..also found out that the smallest suitcase we have unfortunately was just larger than carry-on size for united and delta, so it looks like i'll be paying $11 and $15 respectively to get it checked. :\

kathleen called from keymind to basically personally reiterate what an email i'd received yesterday from the head hr person said: that they were very impressed and felt i'd be a great fit with the team, but that they went with the other person, and that if/when they have the resources available to bring on another, they'd keep my info on file and be in touch with me.  well, guess it was worth a shot..sigh.
